About Wols
Wols was the pseudonym of Alfred Otto Wolfgang Schulze (1913-05-27 - 1951-09-01 ), a German painter and photographer. One of the influential painters of the Tachisme movement, he was noted for his etchings and for the use of stains (taches) of colour dabbed onto the canvas, exemplified by his painting Composition c. 1950. Although unrecognised in his lifetime, he pioneered a new style of expressive abstraction.
