About Seyran Ohanyan
Seyran Ohanyan (born July 1, 1962 ) is the current Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia and holds the rank of Colonel General. He was offered the job of taking over as commander of Armenia’s army after Mikael Harutyunyan was appointed Defense Minister of Armenia. Ohanyan is a career officer who served in the Soviet military before joining Nagorno-Karabakh’s newly formed army in 1991 and playing a major role in the Nagorno-Karabakh war against Azerbaijan. He was seriously wounded in action in 1992 and had one of his legs amputated as a result of the injury. He automatically became Armenia’s first deputy defense minister.
